Young Gardeners Program
For many years, The St. Mary's County Garden Club has funded a tree planting program at a local elementary school. The Club coordinates with teachers to purchase a tree and then members help the students in the planting of that tree on the school grounds. In addition, books are provided to supplement the classroom libraries. More recently the State has challenged all of our area schools to become "Green Schools". To assist our schools in this effort, our Young Gardeners Program will be expanded to include additional schools each year and other planting projects including, (but not limited to) Butterfly Gardens, Rain Gardens, and Native Plants Gardens (with an emphasis on Xeriscaping).
